Summary
Bernard had felt guilt for simply existing since before he knew how to articulate the emotion.
It felt. . . like a weight on his heart– an anchor chained to his ribcage, pulling at his chest until it hurt to simply breathe.
How tragic it was to partake in something as instinctive and humane as breathing— a simple in and out, an automatic– and have your body rebel against even that. How ironic.

Steph dug into her bag of food and pulled out her burger. "Quit your job." She pointed the wrapped burger at Bernard. "Join me in my Runaway Stripper Life. We have pole dancing classes."
"You don't go to pole dancing classes." Tim interjected, digging into his bag as well.
"Selina can teach us."
"I never consented to this plan." Bernard felt the need to point out.
"Benefits include no college?" Steph suggested.
Bernard ruminated on that for a second, grabbing a handful of fishsticks from the Batburger bag and tossed one at Fishstick, who went right to chewing. "Yeah, that's actually really good incentive. I'll get back to you in two to three business days with my response."
"You two are ridiculous." Tim laughed.
