Summary
Kuroo has always been able to see a red string. He knows what it means and he's resigned to not knowing if his will ever connect.
One day, his best friend, Bokuto, connects to a first year student, Akaashi. Soon afterwards, Bokuto comes out to Kuroo and says he wants to date the underclassman. With some help, they arrange a group hangout - where Kuroo's string connects.
The boy at the other end isn't who Kuroo thought it would be. He imagined someone like the guy he had a crush on in middle school: tall, dumb, loud, and outgoing. He didn't expect someone who was quiet, hated people, and far smarter than him.
Kenma doesn't think the red string actually exists. If it did, he wouldn't be here when his fated person finally came along - he felt he'd always miss them. Who would want a gloomy guy like him, anyway? He doesn't believe Kuroo when he says they're fated, but he also can't resist the hand he's holding out any more than he can deny that it feels like fate is shoving them together.

"If I tell you will you leave me alone?" Kenma barked, his gaze never shaking from Kuroo's. His expression fell pretty quickly as shock over takes his piercing gold eyes, like he was surprised he said it too.
Kuroo leaned in, "Perhaps," he said with a shrug. Kenma shook his head and answered.
"It's Kenma Kozume. I hope it won't be in your mouth a lot." Then he blinked and turned back to his work, focusing intently on what was being projected onto the board. Kuroo smiled at his concentrated gaze.
"Tetsuro Kozume sounds nice-
"Kuroo!" The teacher snapped.
"Sorry!" Kuroo sent a sheepish smile her way.
