Summary
Hoffman was weird. He was more than weird.
Strahm knew he was weird and he was going to get off his ass and prove it.
The knife he’d been jimmying around the edges of Hoffman’s apartment window jiggled a few more times and Peter prayed that it wouldn’t snap, he’d broken his last good knife not by attempting to break and enter another police officer’s place but by trying to pry a stone out of the sole of his shoe. The tip had broken clean off and the stone had remained lodged firmly in the rivets of the rubber.
It hadn’t been the worst thing to happen that day though. That would have been the biro pen sticking out the front of Strahm’s trachea.

In truth, it has become its own kind of annual, bring-your-kids, mostly family-friendly town custom where people bet what type of trick Bob “Rocket Man” Ferguson will come up with this time to appear crazy enough for another round of government money.
Normally, it would be his daughter Willa who, for realism’ sake, would drive them both back home for rest after the pro forma booking and release from the police. However, her new role as part of the resistance demands her to help and transport some immigrants caught in a raid two counties over, and thus cannot pick her father up.
