Summary
It had been one of those days - the kind that scraped you down to the cartilage and called it a good save. He’d woken up with the ghost of a dream under his skin, hours before his shift even started; one of those ones where he had to just lie there to remind himself the world was still spinning. Part of him had been tempted to call Jack. He would have picked up. Taken his shift - or better, offered to come over. Then they’d do that thing where Jack would put on some shitty Spaghetti Western and keep running commentary going until Robby felt like a person again.
Instead, he’d gotten up, gone through the motions, and into work.
---
Robby doesn't know how to keep going - he knows it's more than just exhaustion. He also doesn't know how to let himself love Jack. Lucky for him, Jack knows how to do both.

“You know,” Jack says. “It wasn’t your fault. Any of it.”
Robby is sure that there are many things that happened today, a thousand days ago, that he can’t help but bear some blame for. He lets his breath pass through his teeth. “Whatever happened to your Catholic guilt, huh?”
“It got blown to pieces with my leg,” Jack says. “Besides,” he says—and it’s this morning on the roof again, the sun coming up. “This is about your guilt, misplaced as it is.” His gaze sinks to some far-off place. “Not mine."

Summary
He's nothing like the stereotypical yoga teacher Jack has been imagining. He looks more like a guy you'd see heading up a running club, middle-aged and tall and broad-shouldered, bearded but not in a hippie kind of way, and it's only when he says, "Welcome to class. You're new, right? I'm Robby. Any injuries I need to know about before we get started?" that Jack realizes he's the instructor.

Summary
Lifting himself just enough to be heard, Robby shook his head. “It’s not like that, Jack. No evidence needed.”
“It sure as hell looks like it’s like that,” Jack said, his anger bleeding through despite his best effort to keep himself in check.
Robby looked directly at Jack for the first time since Jack had arrived. His eyes held a mix of shame and pain, and Jack was furious at the thought that somehow Robby thought he had to excuse the person who’d done this to him. But before Jack could say as much, Robby rocked him to his core by saying, “I asked for this.”

“You could what?” Robby asked, turning toward Jack.
In for a penny, Jack thought, and buckled up for Robby’s response when he answered, “Do your exam.”
“You? Now?” Robby’s eyebrows lifted. “Here?”
Jack had been thinking tomorrow at the hospital before his shift, but now that Robby mentioned it— “Why not?” he shrugged. “I’ve got the basics at home. I can write down your stats and transcribe them when I get in tomorrow night.”

Summary
The night before his very first shift as an MS3 in PTMC, Robby meets a guy at a bar and goes home with him—it's perfect, but it's definitely just a one-night stand, especially when he bumps into the guy in the hospital the next morning: Jack Abbot, MS4, who doesn't even seem to remember Robby. Many, many years later, the Pitt Christmas after-party is at the same seedy bar, and it turns out Jack did remember, after all.

Summary
It’s the spring of ‘97 when Michael Robinavitch is dragged into a gay bar for the very first time.
When he meets Jack Abbot there, the two of them are on the cusp of radically different futures: Robby is about to begin his residency, and Jack is days away from shipping out to the army. They know better than to get attached - know the timing is wrong, the goodbye inevitable - but something tender takes root anyway. Through every deployment, Jack thinks of Robby more than he ought to; through every failed relationship, Robby wonders about what might've been.
Years later, when their paths cross again at PTMH, the past resurfaces — and though they’re older, more jaded, and scarred in different ways, they find themselves pulled towards everything they left unfinished.
