Jon frowned, pressing a hand against his bump with feather-light gentleness, as though afraid he’d hurt him. “You know, ‘bearable’ isn’t the reassurance you think it is.” He leaned down, thumb tracing soothing circles over the soft fabric of Damian’s sweater. His voice softened, his focus shifting. “Hey, baby bean. Can you take it easy on your mama, please?”
Damian huffed, eyes narrowing in disbelief. “Are you… negotiating with our unborn child?”
Jon ignored him, his expression earnest as he bent closer to Damian’s stomach, speaking as if their child could hear him—and maybe they could. Omegas often said babies recognized their parents’ voices long before they were born. “You’re strong, huh? Strong like your mom. But you gotta be nice to him, okay? He’s been through enough without you using his organs for martial arts practice.”
Damian’s lips twitched despite himself. “You’re ridiculous.”
Jon gasped theatrically, pressing his ear against Damian’s stomach like he was eavesdropping. “Did you hear that, little bean? Your mama just called me ridiculous. That’s not very nice.”

Dick has never felt pain as striking as this. He’s kept going after everything, after all of it, because people depended on him. Damian and Tim looked up to him, he was Jason’s anchor, Duke, Steph and Cass relied on him and his guidance, his kindness. Babs needed a shoulder to lean on. Bruce needed his Robin, his Nightwing. Alfred needed his grandson. Then all of it was gone. They were all gone. Gotham was in shambles, he had funerals to plan, a league of heroes to uphold, a business to make decisions for.
He was still needed, but now? He wasn’t wanted. When he closes his eyes at night, he wishes he’d wake up anywhere else than the empty pit of a manor he resided in. What he wasn't expecting was his wish to come true…

Summary
Tim, frankly, didn’t care if he wasn’t wanted. Being wanted wasn’t important. It didn’t count for anything in the long run. You could want something for a few years, a few days, and then in a matter of seconds you’d forget about it and move on to the next best thing. Tim had wanted Robin until he didn’t. Jack Drake had wanted a family until he didn’t.
What was most important was to be needed. It’s how he’d wriggled his way into the lives of the bats. He certainly hadn’t been wanted, because Batman hadn’t wanted a Robin. But he’d needed one. He’d needed one and Tim had delivered accordingly.
Now, he was a part of the Wayne family tree, fucked up as it was, and he’d be damned if he’d let it fall apart. Even if it meant dragging an inebriated Bruce Wayne to his bed on some nights. Even if his palms bled and his heart raged and the quiet parts of him died somewhere along the way.
