He tripped over a grand total of three door sills, bumped into multiple lab tables and had to catch his glasses from falling off his face almost constantly in his panicked, scrambling rush to reach the control room before they collided with-

He stopped dead in his tracks next to the big octagonal window that usually showed a vast and fascinating view of space, but now…

    “Is that a submarine?!”

    Summary

It was a silent, heavy ripple, like a drop of ink spreading through clear water. A cosmic entity, vast and profoundly uncomprehending of the linear nature of human lives, had briefly looked down, felt a sudden pang of ancient guilt for the endless tragedies it had woven into one specific soul, and attempted a clumsy, well-meaning repair.

The Ignorant God had not meant to hurt humanity, it did not know it had until it met one, spoke with it, seemingly killed it. so it reached back perhaps further than it meant to, and plucked the human out of it's suffering, dropping it somewhere better. Into the kitchen of one Ryland Grace.

Grace comes home from class to find a human child in his kitchen on Erid, a child who also happens to be his husband's past self.

Ryland Grace doesn't remember his past.
Lyra Novak doesn't remember Ryland Grace.
Both of those things are a problem. Because somehow, humanity surviving becomes the easier part.

Or: two touch-starved scientists with memory loss accidentally speedrun emotional intimacy aboard a spaceship without even noticing.
