Summary
Sulle rive del Mithrim, non sembra esserci altro che tenebra e caos. La schiera di Feanor, giunta nella Terra di Mezzo per muovere guerra a Morgoth, si ritrova priva di una guida, bloccata in una terra sconosciuta e inospitale, priva di protezione verso un nemico che incombe dal Nord.
Dove offrire una sicurezza è impossibile, i figli di Feanor superstiti devono cercare di offrirne l'illusione. -

Summary
Finrod cerca di alzarsi in piedi. Il suo corpo perfetto fatica a rispondergli; vi è costretto dentro, come in un abito troppo stretto cucito da mani maldestre. La pelle gli si tende addosso come corde, i suoi muscoli non gli rispondono, quasi troppo deboli persino per stare in piedi.
Gli ci erano voluti giorni interi solo per calibrare il respiro; è così naturale, quando nasci e cresci, è così difficile quando rinasci e sei ormai abituato ad essere ombra tra le ombre. Il suo spirito è risanato e rinato, rinato nel vero senso della parola. Findaráto Ingoldo. Finrod Felagund. Nóm il saggio. Sono tutte persone morte, il loro corpo dilaniato dagli artigli di un lupo, le loro ossa ormai polvere in una terra che è lontana più nel tempo che nello spazio. -

Summary
Ormai nulla del Re del Nargothrond gli era rimasta addosso. Né le ricche vesti, né i paramenti, neppure uno dei gioielli e dei preziosi dei quali andava tanto fiero. Re Finrod Felagund era stato rinchiuso negli scrigni intarsiati e nei grossi bauli di quercia, e ciò che rimaneva era solo Findaráto.
L’ultima cosa che ripose fu un piccolo anello d’argento, leggero come la piuma di un usignolo.
