James did a double take. Saw Oliver again. Blinked, took a deep breath. Still Oliver.
He’d done this before. Most often with Richard, but sometimes with Oliver, or maybe Meredith—for God’s sake, he’d once thought he recognized Gwendolyn in a California grocery store. It had just been a middle-aged lady with a scarf. But every time, it felt like missing a step at the top of a staircase, that swoop of motion-sick panic in his stomach. The feeling that he’d been caught out. And the distant, guilty relief.
A James-POV reunion fic set in Del Norte.

As the first Prologue begins James is 25 years old, lonely and guilt ridden in his small apartment right outside of Berkeley. For the first time in years, he allows himself to think back to what he did, and what led him to do it. This gives us five acts and an epilogue of James’s side of the story. (Yes the same things as in the original book happens, only from a different viewpoint.) (yes he doesn’t kill himself in the end okay.) -
