Summary
Stiles has had enough. Scott completely ignores every word out of his (or any other experienced adult's) mouth. Deaton is the only one he will listen to which has almost gotten their splintered pack killed so many times. The Hales won't even come back into the country (Stiles can feel the fledgling mate bonds pull at his very soul) and there's nothing stopping another hunter clan from just rolling into town. Then there's the text from his father that changes everything.
(Time travel takes Stiles back to the events of Season 1 after the parking lot scene)

Summary
Everyone is born with a mate. The only clue that each person gets is a soul mark that makes its first appearance on their tenth birthday. The mark interacts with each person because they are a piece of the person, they will one day bond with. Derek has always longed for his mate after seeing his mama and papa so happy together and hearing the story of how they met. When he gets his soul mark it's the happiest day of his life. Then comes a day when the mark no longer brings him happiness and hope as it once did. Instead, he's reminded of the so-called loves that didn't work and he no longer wants to be reminded. So, when he turns eighteen, he takes a friend up on the offer to rid him of the mark which is legal once a person reaches that age. Derek had no way of knowing what effects his mate would endure because it was supposed to be painless.

Summary
Stiles was so excited to start his first year at Berkeley; he was close to his dad, but far enough away to not be involved in Beacon Hill's supernatural shenanigans, and he was surrounded by like-minded people who shared his passion for higher education.
That, like so many things in life, was all soon derailed by one night with a pretty face.
Finding his life has suddenly been turned upside down, Stiles takes comfort in his pack, and in one unexpected pack member in particular who just can't seem to help himself from assisting Stiles during his trying time.
