Summary

"It will never get old. Scully will never get over this: the feeling of walking down the hall together, of being in sync with one another, of walking into the fire together. Even when the fire is utterly mundane, an internal policy review meeting on the second floor of the Hoover Building. She listens to the click of their shoes on the floor and feels Mulder’s hand on her lower back as they approach the doors at the back of the auditorium and feels—as she often does beside him—that she is exactly where she is meant to be."

“You cheat,” Scully said, so full of affection it was barely a whisper. The words more of an endearment each time she said them. The fact that he cheated the rules of this game— the fact that his brain worked this way— was the reason she loved him. Him and nobody else.
