Summary
A significant injury shakes Ratio and Aventurine’s day to day life, and causes them to ponder and think about what may happen when they lose the other.
Ratio couldn’t be another victim of his lucky streak. But how could Aventurine not allow for Ratio to peel away the masks covering the broken soul underneath. Allowing Kakavasha to grip on with broken fingernails and cling to the feeling of being human. His Ratio was here, injured enough to the point of unresponsiveness. Somehow deep down he wondered if this was payback for what he put the good doctor through all those years ago.

Ratio let his phone buzz once, then twice, before picking up with a heavy sigh. He did not have a chance to give a proper greeting before Jade immediately began explaining the situation. Aventurine was sick, apparently. He needed to be monitored. He would refuse care from anyone else. That was the gist of it, at least.
After all this time in their partnership raving on about his good health—“Why, I don't get hangovers, Ratio.”, “Food pyramid? Isn't that just IPC propaganda, Ratio?”, “Honestly, a few pain pills will do the trick, Ratio.”—well, the doctor couldn't help but feel a bit vindicated over his neglected advice. He was not one to say 'I told you so', he was raised better than that, but in this moment it was a near thing.

Or Aventurine gets sick, and Ratio is tasked with caring for him.
