All she knew was that she never could be taken to the basement. She never saw what happened to the girls down there, but she heard their screams well enough.

Perhaps if all were right with the world, two such people would never meet. Or perhaps fate will always give those who need each other a push in the right direction.
It begins, as so many things in Ketterdam do, with a murder.
