Aegon looks at him. At the steps that separate them, at how Jace has all but wedged his back into the wall in order to stay away. He lets out a low laugh. Hoarse, rattling in his throat like a disease. It sounds as monstrous as he looks.
“Look at you,” he says. “So ready to flee from me. What cruelty have I shown you since I brought you back from Lys? I touch you only when you allow me to. I let you choose your retinue, gave you freedom of the Keep and the grounds around it. Hell, I even made you my consort.”
“Prince consort,” he points out. “Not king.”
They find Jace tied to a bedpost in Lys and then take it from there.
