I woke up with a start at the sound of the front door slamming. I didn’t get out of the bed to see what had happened, there was no need to, I already knew. I buried myself deep into my pillow and pulled my duvet up to my chin, as I let out a deep sigh. He had left… again. Once again he had left without warning, without telling me where he was going or when he was coming back, and it didn’t even surprise me. Why would it with the fight we’d had just hours before? It had started out small, like our fights always did. And then, like always, it got blown out of proportion.

So there I was, sitting on the road as cars and bicycles whizzed past me ringing their bells and honking their horns at me. They were all just blurry shapes around me, because I had lost my contacts. I knew that I should get out of the way as quickly as possible, because sitting there was quite dangerous, but I was too disorientated to move. Even if I had tried I wouldn’t have been able to get up anyway, my wrist and knee hurt too much for me to push myself up and walk off the road. I was starting to panic because I had no idea how I was going to get away from the road, when suddenly two arms wrapped around me from behind and pulled me off the road.

Summary
I was standing by the window in the living room, watching the snow fall over London and trying to cheer myself up as I waited for Tom to come home. My Christmas playlist was playing softly from my computer, playing many Danish songs which reminded me of home. Tom and I had decorated the house weeks ago, and we had even talked about getting a tree. Even though we thought, at the time, that we wouldn’t be home for Christmas Eve and Christmas morning. Tom and I had a tradition that one year we would spend Christmas with his family and then the next year we would spend it with mine. This year we were supposed to go to Denmark and celebrate Christmas with my family, or so we thought. Since we were to be parents soon, we had decided that this would be the last Christmas we would spend away from home. At least for a couple of years. We wanted to make some of our own traditions with our child, a mix of my Danish traditions with a mix of Tom’s British ones. But I had really looked forward to the last Christmas at home with my family, and I felt a great need to see them all and celebrate my favorite holiday with them.
