Summary

Most people stumble into trauma. FBI agents and killers choose it.
After Hannibal Lecter’s escape, Clarice Starling clings to survival by clinging to usefulness. Then Ardelia is hurt, trauma licks at the edges of Clarice’s mind, and Crawford hands her a cold case where Doctor Lecter lingers as suspect, echo, and fascination.
Clarice chose the FBI the way Lecter chose the treacherous run: knowing she would do what no one could undo, accepting the harm it would do to her mind — perhaps even to her soul.
A story about unearthing Hannibal’s past and present, impossible luxury, and what it costs to love both a mesmerising man and a cannibalistic monster.
Some might say it is a horrific tragedy. Some might say these are champagne problems.

“Hi,” she says quietly, suddenly cowed by the reality of her actions.
She’d shown up at a drug dealer's house, unannounced in the middle of the night, months after the place was raided. If she had bothered to text, he would have ignored it like he’d been fucking ignoring her messages for months, or he could have told her to stay the fuck away.
Lexi can’t decide which would have been worse, both options completely undesirable in their own ways. At least she’d grown accustomed to the silent treatment.
“Lex,” he replies in that low way of his that had never failed to curl her toes earlier this year.
