Summary
Buck managed to push to his feet and took a step forward, swaying precariously.
“Stop, Buck! I’m coming to you!” Eddie shouted. “Don’t move!”
Buck took another step forward anyway, either not hearing Eddie or not comprehending what he said, and promptly lost his balance. He fell, tipping to the left, his shoulder colliding heavily with the fire-riddled wall. Eddie watched in horror as the flames made contact with Buck’s body, licking up at Buck’s face and neck where his skin was exposed.
The sound of Buck’s scream would haunt Eddie for a long, long time. He collapsed back down to the floor, his gloved right hand flying up to the burnt skin.
Or: Buck gets hurt on a call. It almost ruins his and Eddie's relationship.

Summary
Buck and self harm have been close friends since he was young. He did reckless things, purposefully hit his bike on a curb, turned his motorcycle too fast, or his favorite method—rolling his ankle on the top step of a stair case.
Buck was reckless for attention. Everyone knew that. They know that he craves the caring affectionate looks that get thrown his way. So, even now, he runs into burning buildings not calculating all the risks, he makes risky rescues, he does whatever he can to get the attention he so desperately craves.
But the razor blade hidden in his bedside drawer isn’t for attention. But it started off that way.

Summary
There was nothing to stop the spiral. The mother’s words played on repeat in his head. The way the girl looked a lot like a female version of buck. How even her name was similar to his name. The words she spat out at her own daughter. Screaming at her that her addiction was tiring, that she was exhausting.
Buck couldn’t help but wonder if that was how everyone who had helped him felt, even just slightly. He knew that they’d never outwardly tell him that but did they feel that way?

Summary
In the low lighting of the car, Ilya can only see the thin line of David’s lips, pressed close together.
“You are… disappointed,” he ventures, but it comes out as more of a question than he was intending.
Yuna turns in the passenger’s seat to give him a small, sad smile. “We know you boys must be,” she says. “It was a rough game. But—”
“I am team captain,” Ilya interjects quickly, immediately. “Was my fault.”
“Hey, no, Ilya,” Shane shushes him, shifting to lean into his side now fully. “It’s a team sport, you know that. It’s just—first game of the season, it’s hard to get in the groove. We’ll get there.”
___
Shane and Ilya lose their first game of the season on the Centaurs. Ilya knows what to expect from his own father. He doesn’t know not to expect the same thing from Shane’s.Bookmarked by Applepop77
