Until Finnick takes her hands into his and guides her through tying a complicated knot— When Katniss raises her gaze, she realizes they're close. Really close.
She can see the little freckles on Finnick's nose and can even feel his breath fanning against her face.
They're so close that if she leaned in a little closer, she could kiss him.The thought startles her, longing and want brewing in her stomach. She gazes at him as he's the first face she's ever seen.
She feels sunbeams shoot through her from her scalp to her heels. It's all Katniss can do not to flush red on the spot.
It terrifies her. How much she wants to kiss Finnick in that moment— a feeling so new and overwhelming. Something she's never experienced before, with anyone else.
She doesn't know what to do with it.
When Finnick's fingers linger longer than necessary and his eyes flicker for the tiniest of seconds down to her mouth, she thinks maybe he feels the same.
