No leapt to Wei Wuxian’s lips – let Lan Wangji see the camp, see A-Yuan and the sick and the elderly? No. But maybe he should see, a little voice whispered in the back of Wei Wuxian’s head. Untouchable Hanguang-jun, so pristine that dirt can’t touch those glorious white robes – let him see how the world really works. See if he cares.
And it was Lan Wangji, and he was looking at him with, maybe, possibly, a glimmer of hope in his inscrutable eyes. And the small, foolish corner of Wei Wuxian that still lit up when he saw Lan Wangji opened his mouth, and said, “Sure.”

Summary
Surviving an accidental trip to Wen lands isn’t easy. Nie Huaisang would have been happy if he, Wei Wuxian, and Lan Wangji had made it out with their own skins intact, nothing more – yet, somehow, they managed to take responsibility for an entire village of refugees. Now they have to make it back to Cloud Recesses without getting any of the innocent farmers eaten, murdered, or otherwise harmed by magical misadventures. Not an easy prospect when being chased by unknown monsters, especially for a disciple who’d much rather be painting than fighting.
And, to make things more complicated, his friends are either falling in love, magically bound together, or both. Adorable? Nauseating? Worrying? Whatever else it is, Nie Huaisang is pretty sure it’s a problem waiting to happen, but there’s not much he can do about it other than pray that his Da-ge won’t murder him as soon as they get back.
Assuming, of course, they get back in one piece…
