My feet pounded against the hard ground, echoing my heart smashing against my chest. Shaking the bones in my legs. Sending shocks up my spine. My breath was coming in little gasps, fear (and the tight corset) cheating me of the chance to fill my lungs.
My skirts kept trying to traitorously trip me up, I wish I’d worn trousers. My stupid silk slippers slipping on the grass and wet leaves, slowing me down. Sliding, arms windmilling to keep my balance. I wanted desperately to kick them off, but then my scent would be on the ground and I’d be much easier to track.
