One month since the defeat of Lady Bone Demon. Three weeks since she reunited with her grandpa. Two weeks since she became a regular at Pigsy’s.
One week since she noticed Macaque loitering at the foot of the shop; six days since she invited him in for noodles.
One day until New Year’s, and she’s in the bathroom, wondering if she can wish for a new set of eyes, hands, mouth, face, soul. Wondering when she'll stop being afraid of her own reflection.
An hour before midnight when someone finally tells her what she’s desperately needed to hear all this time.

“It wasn’t okay, and I wish I hadn’t done it. I wish I hadn’t done what I did to him, putting him in danger, and I wish I hadn’t done it to you. I never meant...” his words cracked, splinters painfully grating against his throat, “I never meant to sacrifice one relationship for another.”
The wind blew through them, making his mouth dry. It seemed to whisper in her voice – because of course she had to taunt him in his worst moments, even when she wasn’t there. Failure, it murmured. Panic set in, a silent poison spreading through his veins. He’d said too much, or too little. Maybe if he’d been a little better with words, a little better with people, a little better as a person, he would’ve figured out the perfect thing to say that would help.
But here, under Macaque, he was just Wukong.
Or: My take on a confrontation between the two, right after Lady Bone Demon's defeat.
