Summary
The first stride onto the ice goes as smoothly as he expects given a lifetime spent in a rink. The second goes as well as the first, emboldening him to really dig into the ice, muscles primed for speed. The third has him thinking he’ll be attempting his first jump by the end of the session.
The fourth is where it all goes to shit.

Summary
Yuuta shifts uncomfortably on the futon. He’s hyper aware of the eyes fixated on him. Despite the nonchalance he attempts to give off, his hands betray him as they start to clam up.
He should have known this would be the eventual outcome, but in his desire to ensure Toge had an evening with their friends where they could behave like normal teenagers, he had thrown caution to the wind and agreed to this dumbass game.
“Truth or dare, Yuuta. This isn’t rocket science. Just pick one” Maki snaps, her patience wearing thin.
“This feels oddly personal.”
“It is.”

But the past casts a long shadow, and the sight of a familiar face sends him spiralling back into his childhood, a place where he was a tool, a dog to be used, where his silence was the greatest gift he could give the world. This is the Inumaki curse, to be lost in the darkness - but his is not the only voice crying out to be heard.

Summary
He doesn’t know what to say, so he tugs on Okkotsu’s hand until their arms are flush together, and lays his head on the taller boy’s shoulder. He knows he’s crossing a line. Shame drips into the mix of longing and steadfast grief that’s already swirling in his gut, because the boy he’s soothing right now has a girlfriend, and he’ll never get as close as her. He’ll never get this close again. He can only ever really love the idea of Okkotsu Yuuta, and if it makes him sick and twisted to be satisfied with that, well, Inumaki Toge was raised by serpents, and serpents are the very embodiment of greed.
He’ll take what he can get.
