Vio makes an impulsive decision in that forest, but it was the only choice really offered to him. He had to fake joining the side of his enemies. He didn't expect anything easy when he did it, he knew exactly how dangerous it could be. His life was in danger every second he spent in the company of his enemies.
At least, that was what he thought at first.
The longer he spent by Shadow's side, the more difficult it was to commit to his plans.

Tim lets out a shuddering breath. There’s Jay, sitting on the floor of their front porch in his pajama pants, hoodie, and his hat that Tim would swear is super glued onto him if he hadn’t taken it off Jay’s head himself. He wonders why on earth Jay is sitting on the floor instead of a chair, or why he’s out here at 4 in the morning while it’s pouring rain, but realizes belatedly that Jay is petting and staring at a wet lump in his lap.
