When Kai first met Master Wu, he had been told that he had the power to control fire. In the moment, he didn't care much about that information beyond whether or not it would help him rescue Nya from the skeletons that had kidnapped her. As time went on, he grew more attached to the idea and looked forward to his future as the Red Ninja, Master of Fire. But when he performed Spinjitzu and created an elemental tornado for the first time, he realized his power was not fire.
It was water.
