As water burst into the bus and the other passengers started screaming and banging on the windows, Rory sighed and leaned back into her seat. Only to realize that her sigh matched one across the aisle from the Jim Stark-wannabe. He closed his book and sat up slightly to put it in his back pocket. She wasn’t one to throw stones but Rory couldn’t help but find his reaction weird. “Hey, didn’t you get the news?” she asked him, and the guy turned to face her with tired dark eyes. “We’re about to die,” she finished. “It doesn’t matter, I die all the time.” The guy spoke like it was just another Tuesday. Before she could take in his words, Rory found herself smirking: “Me too.”
