It’s itchy against his skin – Knives has never itched before. “No matter how long it takes. I’ve gotten there before, I can do it again.”

It strikes Millions Knives as intensely pathetic, that he is debating philosophy with a witless cowboy.

An impulsive decision leaves Steven near death and trapped in a bubble underwater with nothing to do but contemplate the events leading up to his situation. Time is against him, and darkness and desperation are closing in.
The consequences of his choice leave his friends questioning their own decisions and struggling to communicate with him as they all grapple with the challenges of his recovery.
This fic was written at the end of 2019, before Steven Universe Future had finished airing.
