Enjolras didn't know why exactly he was panicking or why he was surprised that he was panicking. He knew this would happen, it always does. But, some part of him really believed that this year would be different, that he wouldn't be left having an anxiety attack in a toilet cubicle, that maybe he would finally be a normal high schooler, and stop constantly disappointing his friends, family and doctors. In hindsight; this now seems stupid.

“I’m sorry, I really just wanted to make sure you were alright,” Trent says, going for casual and catastrophically failing. He feels foolish, all of twenty-one and watching French films without subtitles for a boy who slept with him once and then looked past him afterwards; forty-one and freshly divorced holding a one-month old on his hip. “And you’re alive, and in one piece, so I’ll just go, shall I?” He gets as far as turning around, ducking his head so his hair drapes over his eyes and he can pretend to melt in to the London sewer system and get lost, before Ted reaches out, grabs him by the arm and then lets go just as quickly.
“Wait, wait, hold up now!” Ted runs his hands through his hair, wet from the shower, and water slides down the side of his neck, catching Trent’s eye. “You want some coffee?”
“Oh.” Trent blinks at Ted a few times. “Alright, then.”

Summary
Most of his days are like this, in the weeks since the end of the season, since he’d imploded everything; he’s nearly at the point of losing track of the days, everything slowed, three major tasks a day to accomplish around time spent the way a four year old dictates. Trent’s had a near 300% increase in tea parties in the last month of his life, but then Evie declares that she’s poisoned the tea, and Trent has to gag and slump over on the floor, and he wouldn’t turn down an Evie Crimm tea party if the Queen invited him for her own.
But he’s definitely going to make sure he limits the amount of news about the mysterious deaths of Russian journalists that she’s exposed to, next time one comes up. Her plots have become very elaborate.
He has an optometrist’s appointment and brings Evie to help pick out his new glasses; takes her to a speech therapist who reassures Trent that it’s very common for four year olds to do one year of speech therapy and then never need it again; they go to museum after museum and take guided tours that they sneak off from conspiratorially; mostly, Trent spends time with his daughter, and doesn’t think about football at all, but does think about Ted Lasso a lot.

The first time Trent’s ever attracted to someone is in 1984. Most of the other boys in his year are already talking about fancying various girls in the neighborhood and how good looking Samantha Fox and other Page 3 girls are. Trent doesn’t share their interest, yet another way he doesn’t fit in with the other boys. One weekend Trent’s parents travel north to Manchester so his father can speak at a medical conference and for the first time Trent’s allowed to stay home by himself. His parents let him pick a couple of movies to rent from their local video shop and leave him with enough leftovers to last at least a week. On Friday night Trent presses play on an American film from the 70s called Smokey and the Bandit and suddenly all the ways the boys at school talk about feeling for pretty girls makes sense. Only it’s not Sally Field making Trent’s heart flutter but Burt Reynolds, his mustache, and his cowboy hat.
Or a history of Trent Crimm's love of mustachioed cowboys and how it leads to the best relationship of his life.
