Class 1A listened to the booming voice of Present Mic as he plundered through the morning announcements once again, seriously sidetracked, as usual. “They say gender is whats in your pants. So if you’re a guy that means you’ve got a dude in your pants,” he paused for dramatic effect. “Which is pretty gay if you ask me.”
There was a pause, which sounded less for dramatic effect, and more like the muted tones of someone trying to remove Present Mic from the microphone. “Anyways, lunch is soba have a good day students and listeners!” he shouted, just as the intercom shut off, leaving the class to sit in silence as they waited for Aizawa to return.
Finally, Shinsou broke the silence, grinning lazily. “So. What’s your gender, then? I’m a cat shaped stress toy and 30 yen.”

Catra had imagined lots of scenarios for her first bus ride to school. Annoying people screaming on the seats around of her, getting kicked out by the bus driver for punching a random guy (wouldn’t be the first time), or whatever other torture school buses could provide.
She never imagined she’d be listening to Taylor Swift and sharing earphones with a complete stranger. A very cute stranger. And nothing felt weird or awkward., like if Adora and Catra had known each other for a long time already. Maybe the universe wasn’t so mean after all.
