Summary
Pre-first contact AU. Spock is a xenoanthropology researcher for the Vulcan Science Academy.
When the Vulcan High Council becomes aware that the people of Earth are approaching warp capability, they decide to send researchers from the Vulcan Science Academy to study human culture, so that Vulcan’s ambassadors will be adequately prepared for first contact with Earth.
Spock, the foremost xenoanthropologist at the Vulcan Science Academy, and Vulcan’s only half-human, is the most logical candidate for the position of human ethnographer.
Spock is sent on a mission to conduct covert ethnographic research on the complexities of human life and social order by living and working as a human and documenting his experiences. His assigned identity is Ronald “Ronnie” Grayson, a whitewater rafting guide in rural southern Appalachia. Spock is fascinated by the humans he encounters in this line of work. One of Spock's coworkers, an adventurous–bordering on reckless–and compassionate human male, catches his attention.
TLDR: I am a whitewater rafting guide, and I thought it would be funny to write about what Spock would think of hillbilly river culture. Though inspired by my life, this is a work of fiction.
