Summary
Jonathan has a nice voice. It’s deep, but never booming. It’s just kind and gentle, sometimes teasing and cynical but very rarely cruel. Steve clings to it like a life preserver.
“Hey, man,” Steve says, and it sounds so far from casual that he has to laugh a little bit. “Sorry to bother you. It's not… I didn't mean to bother you. You don’t have to do anything.”
“Don’t do that,” Jonathan says. His gentle voice sounds tinny coming through the walkie’s speaker.
“Do what?”
“Pull away when you need help.”

"I, I don't mean that you're not great. I just, sometimes I wonder what I'm missing." Steve admits sadly, blowing smoke out of his mouth and tipping his head back to stare at the ceiling. He hates it when he cannot stop the thoughts, he has enough of those about his parents he does not need them about Nancy too.
"You're not, Steve, you aren't missing anything." Jonathan says earnestly and he is sure, so sure that he is not. Steve is perfect, he is pretty and attractive in a way Jonathan is sure he will never be too awkward in his own skin. Kind and great with the kids even Will who definitely has the hardest time around people, likes him almost as much as El who seems to think he is her new best friend much to Mike and Dustin's annoyance.
