Summary
Whenever Childe returns home, memories of the past inevitably resurface. This time, he's bringing Zhongli with him to meet his family, and hopes for a smooth visit. However, his mind refuses to co-operate, and it becomes more and more difficult for him to conceal the beast within.
Behind Childe, the kitchen door creaks open, and Mother’s voice rings into the hall.
“Oh, hello you two! Sorry I’m a bit late, I was just getting everything thrown in for dinner.” She spreads her arms and pulls Childe into a hug. “Ajax, it’s always good to have you home.”
“Same, Ma, it’s always—” Childe pauses as her scent hits him. Thick and spicy, with a hint of smoke. It seeps through his sinuses and his heartbeat accelerates, his breath catching in his throat. His head spins and he grips her tighter as the floor threatens to fall out beneath his feet, sending him tumbling down, down, down…
Mother laughs, reeling him back in, reminding him that the floor is still safely beneath him.
