The move hadn’t been a spontaneous decision born of panic or fear. It had been planned for a while, and Starcourt was just the final nail in the coffin. It made everything feel more final, indisputable. Like a tidal wave that’s been building and building and he only noticed it once it had already crashed down, tumbling him over loose sand and drowning him in the waves. He hadn’t known much about the town of Derry, Maine, when he’d first heard of it. And by much, he meant nothing at all.
