Greta Evans left Brahms high and dry. When she drove past the Heelshires’ front gate that day, it was over. She’d taken his confidence, his heart, and his grocery boy away. Eventually, the food in the pantry began to run low, and he was out of options. Every waking moment was anxiety-inducing. Someone would show up at the front door, trying to take him away.
He’d made peace with it by the time a knock sounded at his door. Instead of a uniform-wearing officer, he opened it to find an awkward-looking, lanky man. Who didn’t question his mask or his scars. All the stranger said was, “Can I use your phone?”
Brahms had nodded slowly and let him inside. After that, Billy never left. He was an enigma. Strange and off-putting, but Brahms’s saving grace nonetheless. He could leave the house to get food, and that was enough for them to live synchronously.
Until he brought home a small, screaming ball of fur.

When Larry got up in the middle of the night an decided to work on grading papers, he did not expect to find Ahkmenrah sitting in his living room, hands neatly folded in his lap as he looked at the TV in fascination. Once his initial shock was over, he approached “Ahk?” The former Egyptian king smiled at him “Larry! There you are, listen I need assistance.” Larry just talked right over him, panicking about him being away from the tablet and how early it was and how the sun would rise soon, if it hadn’t already, he just sighed and opened the blinds.
Larry froze, expecting dust in his living room, only for Ahk to keep standing there, smiling. He crossed the room and put a hand on his wrist “This is what I needed to talk to you about.” It was then that Larry Daley, former night guard and guardian of Brooklyn, passed out on his living room floor.
