Summary
Missing Chris is less of an emotion these days and more of a physical entity. He’s sure everyone can see that he’s slowly hollowing himself out, that he can’t do much of anything else.
But when Jee laughs at him trying to get his tongue to touch his nose, and Mara loops one of her arms through his to keep him from tossing the rest of his cup in the garbage, Eddie feels solid again.
Maybe he likes yellow birthday cake ice cream after all.
(or, gerrard messes with the team's schedules and eddie 'i just drove my son to flee the state' diaz is the only option to watch mara and jee-yun after school on tuesdays, which, shouldn't be a problem at all, right?)

Summary
Buck didn’t fall so much as vanish. One moment he was there, framed by collapsing light and shadow, and the next, he was gone—swallowed whole by a roar of splintering concrete and churning dust.
“Buck!” Eddie’s voice cracked as he lurched toward the edge, but a wall of debris surged forward in reply, thick and deafening.
Eddie dropped into a crouch, ducking under a splintered steel beam, edges jagged like shrapnel. He shoved past a stunned paramedic without looking back, lungs burning. Then he was inside—in the wreckage of the building where Buck had disappeared.
His radio buzzed, fractured with static. “Diaz—Diaz, get back here, now—”
Eddie shut it off with a snap of his thumb.
Or; a Seismic Shifts rewrite where the zip-line snaps before Buck can cross.

Summary
“Are you finally proposing?” Buck asks, and the air rushes out of Eddie like he’s been punched in the gut, a swift burst.
Hearing it from Buck makes it real, solidified, no longer a shapeless fantasy in his head.
"Proposing what?”
“Marriage, genius.” Buck snorts. “Duh.”
Buck peels Eddie's pomegranates, carves out the brown spots from his apples, eats the ugly, discolored fruit. Eddie wants to propose, spirals, and crashes a car about it.

Summary
Every now and then, when he’s more tired than usual or when he’s had a particularly long day, Eddie will close his eyes in bed at night and think about Evan Buckley.
The picture of Buck he conjures in his head is always smiling. That was one thing about Buck that he’ll never forget. Sometimes, it felt like the joy coursing through him was so strong and overpowering it was going to burst out of the seams of his body and shoot its way across the room to Eddie, ensnare him in it and reel him in until he was helplessly, hopelessly smiling back.
Buck had many different smiles; big, cheesy grins he used to direct at Christopher; soft, slow ones he’d give to Eddie when they were sitting on the couch in the firehouse late at night; sharp, flirty ones he’d turn on bartenders to get free shots, and then point in Eddie’s direction, which always made his stomach turn nervously. And then, towards the end of their friendship, the sad, resigned smiles, the ones that turned Eddie’s stomach in a way that made him want to run to the bathroom and empty his guts.
