He actually started to panic a little, until he remembered that he could shed his mortal skin if he really had to. Whether he wore it or not, he wasn’t truly in any danger, anyway. Problem was, it could be troublesome for Xie Lian if he wandered around the shrine in his true form, but at this point he wasn’t sure that he could bear the heat or the pain of being “mortal” for too much longer.
His heart suddenly shuddered, and he clutched at his tunic. He couldn’t possibly quit on His Highness now.
A ghost king should scoff at the sun, not fear it.
In an effort to do something nice for His Highness, Hua Cheng takes it upon himself to renovate Puqi Shrine, and in the process he forgets just how harsh and unforgiving the hot summer sun can be.

Then, he sees him, a luminous, slender figure, bathed in rays of warm sunshine, white, unfitted robes flapping madly in the gusts of wind that whip the whole street. He looks like a simple man, probably a cultivator, long legs, elegant hands. He Xuan feels his whole body freeze.
Above a bandaged neck an unforgettable face is surrounded by the blinding, unyielding light of his ascension. That's a face that belongs in myths and statues of long gone heroes. Or maybe it's just that He Xuan has seen that face carved in far, far more sculptures one would want to encounter in a lifetime.

Summary
The silvery glint of a blade was all Xie Lian saw before the unmistakable cold bite of metal pressed against his throat. Not again, he thought, slowly turning towards the hilt and the pale hand holding it. As he moved, the blade shifted almost imperceptibly, easing its vice just a breath as if allowing him to turn without cutting through flesh.

Summary
