Summary
They stay that way for a long time, Catra’s face tucked into Adora’s shoulder, Adora gently cradling Catra’s head. Adora is careful not to hug Catra too hard or make her feel restrained, anticipating the moment that Catra will start to pull away — but Catra doesn’t. She hangs on so tightly it hurts, her claws digging through Adora’s jacket and into her back, latching into her like she did when she was a kitten and didn’t know how much her claws could hurt. Adora tries not to wince, tries not to move a single muscle, worried that if she does the spell will break and Catra will struggle away, appalled at having shown weakness.
But Catra doesn’t let go. And so neither does Adora.

Summary
Adora frantically searches for something else on the horizon to look at to take her attention away from Catra. She doesn’t want to think about Catra’s calm, relaxed breathing and how that would be ruined by an unexpected touch. She knows Catra doesn’t like those.
She could move her hand, that way they’d never touch, and maybe the pull would go away. But Adora doesn’t move. Maybe Catra feels the pull too.

Catra looks genuinely shocked, probably because there's no real way that Adora knows this other than by pure coincidence. "How do you even—" She sighs and eyes Adora wearily. "If us fucking hurts you—"
Adora flinches at the apt description of what they are to each other. "No, us fucking doesn't hurt me." She says slowly while shaking her head. "What hurts is that I'm in love with you and you aren't. This is enough for me, but it isn't for you. And you can think I'm controlling or pathetic or whatever laundry list of terrible things you must think of me at this point, but that's the truth." Somewhere as Adora talks her voice gains strength and she feels red in the face. "And now you'll hate me the way you did when we broke up and I'm going to lose the last thing we have together. Because I'm not enough and all I do is fuck everything up."
She feels the tears down her face and wipes at them angrily. Adora feels so helpless—Catra's moving on why can't she do the same? Her heart won't let go and she fears it simply doesn't know how to.
"You're in love with me?" She barely hears Catra's whispered words.

When Adora and Catra start their junior year at Stevenson High School, they're expecting it to be a perfect year. Adora is in line to make captain of the exclusive Valkyrie Cheer Force, and with that much social capital, the girls are planning to rule the school.
But when Adora discovers she has a chance to audition for Vocal Rebellion, the school's glee club, everything starts to change in ways she never could have expected.
