There was nothing at all hidden beneath the layers, only the insulting slope of Jayce’s forge-muscled chest. No ring secretly kept close to his heart. No chain warmed to the heat of his skin from having been worn day in, day out.
Viktor had always prided himself on at least having the strength of his mind to rely on, but Jayce had an accursed habit of turning him into a fool.
“Viktor, I don’t—”
“Why do I bother?” Viktor pushed out the words as he pushed Jayce away, his mind flogging itself. Vulnerable. Humiliated. Foolish.
Or, during the Arcane timeskip Viktor and Jayce are getting a divorce. It’ll take a little magic for Viktor to see that, no matter the timeline, Jayce always chooses him in the end.
