I got out of the car, and slung my backpack over my shoulder, and started toward the front door. A silver (which really just shiny grey if we're being honest) number 13 was nailed to it, yet another bad omen. I turned to tell Freya the newest reason why this was a bad idea but before I could say anything I saw yellow. Bright yellow. Well specifically, a sunflower yellow fiat 500. The bright colour burnt my retinas as the car pulled into the drive opposite but the sight still brought a small smile to my face, it was good to see any colour in this dreary town. Even if it was garishly bright. -

Josie kicks her foot out and all Hope can do is watch the shine of her spur in the air. She gets another brave feeling in her chest, standing up on her tiptoes.
“Kiss for luck?” She asks, and it’s only meant to be a tease.
But Josie looks as if she’s chewing the thought over, before a determined glint shines in her eyes. Without any further warning, warm lips are connecting with the corner of her mouth, and by the time she recovers, all she sees is the dust kicked up by Josie’s horse as she rides to the arena.
“Well, I’ll be damned,” She whispers, her hand coming up to press against the spot where Josie’s mouth had touched hers.
If she beats the county record in her first try at steer wrestling later that day, no one knows the reason but her and Josie.
