“Well at least you two get along I guess” he says, deflecting. If he deflects and changes the subject and acts like whatever is happening right now is no big deal, he doesn’t have to dig any further as to why exactly this is the dream his own traitorous brain is cooking up for him right now.
“Why wouldn’t we?” Buck asks, kissing his way back up to Eddie’s crotch.
“I dunno, she wasn’t alive long enough for us to actually test that out so I always wondered” Eddie shrugs
“Okay ouch. Can we not talk about the fact that I’m dead right now please. Kinda killin’ the vibe Eds”
“What vibe? I feel no vibe”. Buck completely wraps his lips around the head of his dick through thin cotton at that comment. “G-ah hah” Buck looks up at him with that raised eyebrow. “Okay, okay fine.. I feel a vibe” Eddie admits breathily.

“Theo? Can you tell me what’s wrong?”
“He didn’t come home.” He stutters his way through the sentence, like it’s the scariest thing he’s ever said. Like he’s forcing himself to say it but doesn’t understand why it’s so scary, just that it is. Josh frowns at the screen in response. Tentatively types, possibly abandoned.
Jesus. What the hell is wrong with people these days?
“Who didn’t come home, Theo? Your dad?”
Theo, 5. Child in distress. Possibly abandoned.
The radio crackles with acknowledgment as Theo exhales shakily. It’s wet, like he’s building up all the courage his little body has to offer. “My Buck.”

Or, Theo calls 9-1-1 because Buck doesn't come home after he gets hurt on a shift.

And, here, looking at his best friend, he can see that something’s broken inside him, too. And, maybe it’s the therapy he’s had over the years, his sessions with Frank, but Eddie wants to talk to Buck. He wants Buck to talk to him. Buck, who just looks so fucking sad, still in his dress blues, one hand drinking the beer, the other coming up to loosen his tie.
This morning, Eddie had noticed Buck tying, untying, retying the tie with breaths of frustration, fingers shaking. “Eddie,” he’d said lowly from across the room, and Eddie wouldn’t have even heard him if he hadn’t been watching. “I, uh, can never – I can never get this right.”

Summary
That man is standing in Eddie’s kitchen, talking shit about Eddie in front of Eddie’s best friend. Eddie holds back a gasp and almost hisses when Tommy scoffs at Buck’s defense. Not that it was a good defense. Renter? Straight? Thank God Buck’s a firefighter and not a lawyer.
“You’re picking him over me?” Tommy says, voice filled with disbelief.
Buck scoffs, “It was never a competition. Not if it was between you and Eddie."
OR what if Eddie was not just metaphorically present and haunting that scene in the kitchen. Eddie decides to visit Buck and comes upon that scene in the kitchen.

“You’re alright now,” Eddie’s voice was gentle, a stark contrast to how the water had been rushing and crashing in his ears. “Panic attacks suck, I know”
“Is that what that was?” Buck suddenly had a lot more sympathy for Eddie. Not that he hadn’t before, but knowing panic attacks felt like that brought on a whole new wave.
Eddie’s face did something strange, but he nodded. It was only then that Buck realised Eddie was mostly naked too, a towel tied around his waist but nothing else.
“Yeah that’s what it was. A pretty bad one too to have as your first”
“No, I-“ Buck sighed, cold now that the adrenaline had worn off, the water far from warm around and beneath him. He felt tired suddenly, zapped of all his energy. “I think it’s happened before. Just didn’t know what it was”

Buck has a panic attack in the showers after a call and ends up thinking he's back in the tsunami. Thankfully, Eddie's there to help.
