It was so easy to see Yuna in Shane, you could miss all the ways he was like his father too. But sitting across from David Hollander for the first time in his life, Ilya began to count all the David in Shane too—the wide shoulders, the reserved composure, the expressive eyes. Those same eyes were now assessing Ilya as they waited for Shane and Yuna to finish their talk outside. There was no censure in David’s gaze; merely curiosity. Ilya was used to disappointed fathers; he didn’t know what to do with a kind one.
