Jorja Holtmann is a seven-year-old “forbidden” second child whose existence is only discovered when her father is killed in an unfortunate engineering accident. Ark law states that second children are placed in the skybox and floated on their eighteenth birthday.
As head of the guard and member of the council, Marcus Kane has done it before, Octavia Blake being the most recent example. But this time, for some reason, he can’t find it within himself to condemn this wide-eyed, innocent child to a life of imprisonment. How far is he prepared to go to put one child’s freedom above his lifelong mission to ensure the survival of the human race?
Pretty far, as it turns out.

Last Christmas Abby lost her husband. This Christmas she is determined to find his best friend and marine comrade Marcus Kane who saved Jake's life in Iraq but disappeared from their life right afterwards. Abby tracks the man to the tiny village of Arkadia in pursuit of an explanation. She discovers that Marcus has isolated himself in his small cabin in the middle of a snowy mountain range, chopping wood for a living.
Abby's new mission is to try to draw the sullen, aloof man from his shell while Marcus desperately tries not to fall in love with the stubborn widow pushing her way into his lonely life.
Very loosely based on the romance novel A Virgin River Christmas. Will (hopefully!) be updated every day until the 24th of December.

It's 1902 and a youthful Abby Griffin takes up a post in a remote part of Scotland where she is to nurse a wounded man back to health. Her young charge, Lord Marcus Kane, was injured in war, but won't talk about what happened to him. In fact, he barely talks at all except to be rude and dismissive to his carer. Abby soon realises his wounds are mental as well as physical and sets about trying to heal his mind and body. Lord Kane finds her exasperating, but Abby is relentless and believes she can wear him down. She has reasons of her own for wanting to stay as long as possible in this hidden part of the country, far away from the life and troubles she has left behind. Will she succeed in bringing life back to Arkaig Hall and its residents, and can she hide from her past forever?
