    NOTE---this is a rewrite to make this part AoU compliant in terms of location and Clint's character. It required only small changes and dividing into chapters rather than the oneshot form it was in. The old version is still posted for bookmark purposes.

    (MCU x COMICS x Speculation/Slight AU–Mainly Gen, but with mention/hints of comics canon relationships. The details of Bucky’s time as the winter soldier is based on comic books events, the stuff relating to Zola is all MCU. Eventual Bucky/Nat.

    The event that predated this story and brought about Bucky’s return comes from the comics, but has been left changed to fit with the MCU as well as possible.
