Summary

Wei Wuxian’s eyes are sharp, piercing as his arrows. “And you? Lan Zhan – you measure yourself and all others by your code alone. Tell me what you think. Truly.”
It has been so… empty, without Wei Wuxian. Living day to day, week to week knowing more rumours are spreading of his evil ways, knowing the sects are increasingly fearful, slavering for blood as they plot his demise. He has lived with fear in his mouth for longer than he knows, waiting to hear that Yiling has been invaded, trampled, wiped out. That Wei Wuxian’s bright light is gone, extinguished.
That the man who holds his heart in a strangle-hold, so tight it feels smothering sometimes, has died for his principles in the face of Lan Wangji’s intransience.
“I want you to come back with me,” he says.
Or: When the sects agree to invite the Yiling Laozu back into the cultivation world to raise those who die before their time, Lan Wangji volunteers to be the one to mind him.
