Summary
He looks down at the man in his arms and the love that wells up inside of him is so big that he feels like he might come apart at the seams. If such a power exists to draw pain from another with a touch or a kiss or a sacrifice, whatever it may be, he is sure he would do it all. He loves him to the point of aching and suffering and he loves him all the way back home, too.

Summary
She wakes up the day after it happens at 6:00 just like normal. There’s a moment, just after she slaps the top of the alarm clock sitting on her bedside table, that she forgets. It’s a regular Wednesday again, she’ll go to work, it’s another “12 hours on” after a “12 hours off”. She’ll shower and get dressed and drink her coffee after she brushes her teeth even though she sort of feels like that defeats the purpose. Maybe she’d argue her point with Tim again today on their way out on a call. He’ll be driving and she’ll be in the passenger seat. Tommy will let them have the front this time around.
He’s alive still, for her anyway, in that brief moment.

Summary
He doesn’t realize he’s been staring at the same report for so long until the pen he’s been twirling absently falls from where it’s spinning between his fingers. The sound of it hitting the gray plastic mat that sits under his desk is enough to snap him out of it, like breaking hypnosis. He shakes his head and glances up at the clock to find that his shift is nearly over, which seems wrong. It’s weird how time can feel like an eternity and like nothing all at once.

Summary
It’s there when he wakes up that morning. If you had asked him, made him look you in the eyes as he opened his, yawning and rolling his shoulders to greet the new day, he would have lied about it. It’s subtle at first, though, so you can’t really blame him.

It had been going smoothly. It was just a mugger and she was so used to dealing with those, that she’d just bragged to Tony that she could do it in her sleep. She had literally just done that.
But, when she snatched the pearly white handbag back from the robber, tossing it back to a short blonde woman who was already thanking her profusely, her job was not over as it usually was when she got the goods back to their rightful owner.
“Now that’s just rude,” she said nonchalantly as the barrel of the nine millimeter pressed into her ribcage, “Bringin’ a gun to a knife fight,”
That wasn’t even a witty thing to say. She hadn’t even brought a knife

"If you’re standing in a building as it begins to collapse, with the walls shaking around you, bits of outdated ceiling littering your living room carpet, it’s probably time to figure out the fire escape route. They have it taped to the door, in hotel rooms. They don’t have it taped to the door in the 75 year old apartment building in which Peter is currently standing. It smells bad in there, the air was probably stale with mildew before the blast from some new alien space ship thing tore through the sky directly at it. Now though, that stale scent intertwined with the tangy and bitter taste of fresh blood and phosphorus. If there was ever a time to have a map with all the available exits readily available, it was now. It was an apartment, though, not a hotel, and so the door that Peter backed into, dragging the unconscious body of a 17 year old boy was hauntingly naked."

Summary
The sheets he’s laying on are too soft. That’s what he’s decided to blame it on. He’s heard stories about how people come home from war, from seeing the absolute worst parts of humanity, from doing the absolute worst things in the name of humanity, and they can’t sleep anymore. It’s not because the images burned into their mind are also stuck to the insides of their eyelids, though that might be true. It’s because their beds are too soft. They get so used to sleeping on the ground, to using memories from home to wrap themselves up and keep warm, they forget how to act when they have access to a physical blanket, too. Peter may not have been to war, but the sheets are too soft and the bed is too soft and his brain won’t shut up even though he’s so fucking tired.
