Summary
Catalina de Aragon, in an attempt to defend her daughter Mary I from a historian’s slander, ends up telling the entire house that sometimes beheading a teenage girl is a necessary and justifiable decision. When Katherine Howard emphatically disagrees, the house descends into an enormous argument about historical revisionism and contemporary context.
Meanwhile, the queens agree to help a new batch of reincarnated Tudors adjust to the modern world. Only after Lina’s and Kitty’s argument do they discover that this new group includes both Mary I and the teenager she beheaded, Jane Grey. Lina and Kitty must somehow put aside their disagreements to help Mary, Jane, and the others adjust - but what if Mary and Jane don’t want to adjust, or don’t feel able to put the sixteenth century in the past?
A multichapter philosophical exploration of historiography and contemporary vs modern historical interpretations - but ultimately a story about friendship, healing, and the power of forgiveness.
