Summary
Shane does not pull away, does not speak, does not kiss him again, just holds him like it is easier than letting him go, rocking them slowly back and forth on the edge of the mattress. There is a damp patch on his very nice new shirt where Ilya has failed to swallow back his tears, but he is cradling Ilya to him, anyway, like it doesn’t matter. Like it costs him nothing to do it.

“I’m still figuring things out,” Luca says shyly, “but, um… I’m… definitely not straight.”
Scott gives him a grin and rests a hand on his shoulder, squeezing reassuringly. “Well, welcome to this table, then.”
Luca smiles, ducking his head.
“I am starting to wonder if being queer makes you better at Hockey,” Kip says, leaning his elbows on the table.
“It definitely makes you better at handling sticks,” Ilya jokes, then reaches for the menu.

It’s not the way he meant it, but if Hollander takes so much fucking offense on the (not even intentional) implication that there’s something more than rivalry going on between him and Rozanov… so be it. Scott isn’t here to coddle some homophobic crybaby.
Scott straightens, squares his shoulders, pulls on all of height, his strength, his anger.
“You fucking heard me, Hollander.”

Canon divergent from, and following directly after, s01e01 when Ilya leaves Shane's hotel room. Contains Ilya being a provocative dick, Shane being unable to resist rising (ha) to it, too much discussion of chicken, some David Attenborough, Shane negotiating his feelings and interpersonal relationships with all his classic suavity and skill, and as much sex as two nineteen year old professional athletes can fit into one evening.

When asked about support systems for Hollander following his trade to Ottawa, Pike appeared to begin saying "Shane's—" before abruptly stopping himself and substituting "Shane's rival, Rozanov," in reference to the well-documented on-ice rivalry between Hollander and Boston captain Ilya Rozanov.
The 30-year-old defenseman then launched into what observers are calling an "increasingly frantic" explanation of the Hollander-Rozanov rivalry, complete with nervous laughter and visible perspiration.
"I was going to say Rozanov," Pike insisted when pressed on the awkward pause. "Obviously. Since we were just playing Boston last week, and Shane always—he's very focused on beating Boston. Because of the rivalry. The hockey rivalry. That they have. In hockey."
Where Hayden says something he didn't mean to, and chaos ensues.
