Summary
Kie and JJ tried, for two months, to be something that resembled more than friends but it just didn't work, how could it when it was one-sided. So after two months of amazing sex, they called it off, promised to never bring it up again, and go back to being just pogues what they were good at. Now Kie has Ethan, her sweet, and safe new boyfriend. She knows being with JJ will never work, mainly because he doesn't actually want to be in a relationship with her, to him it was just sex and she has to accept that. She has accepted it, that's why she's with Ethan, someone who won't break her heart someone who could love her back. She's moved on, at least that's what she thinks, but what happens when she discovers the truth about JJ's real feelings, will it change things? What if she was wrong to run away so quickly?

‘Hey, JJ?’
‘Yeah?’ JJ responds, turning to her and taking a sip of his drink waiting for her to continue.
‘Do you wanna have sex with me?’
JJ jerks forward and makes a small choking sound into his cup and she see’s a few small drops of liquid spray out the side of it.
He pulls the cup away from his mouth and uses the heel of his hand to wipe at his mouth, staring at her like she has two heads the entire time.
‘What?’
‘Do you-‘
‘No. God. Don’t say it again,’ JJ cuts her off.
Kie bites her lip and watches him slightly freak out at her words.
He doesn’t respond just looks at her mouth opening a shutting trying to find the right thing to say.
‘Well..?’ Kie prompts.
‘Is that an offer or are you just taking a census?’

“You said you were angry and confused. What are you confused about?” Kiara pulled another beer out, knowing why they call it liquid courage.
“I’m confused about…well about you.” Her voice was barely more than a whisper.
“What about me?” Was it just her or had he leaned in closer to her? She wasn’t sure, but she was frozen under his gaze. She tried to take a deep breath to get her thoughts back together, but she inhaled JJ’s scent and it only made her more uncertain on what she wanted to say next.
“Well more about how I feel when I’m with you.” She whispered.
“How do you feel?” And she was certain he was leaning closer to her because she could feel his breath on her face. So she did what she knew could be just another mistake. She closed the gap, pressing her lips to his. For a moment she thought he was just hesitating, but he tensed when her lips first touched his and then he pulled back, clearing his throat. “Fuck. Shit. Fuck. I’m sorry.”

John B and JJ never left the Outer Banks. They stayed locals, and never left each other's side. Kiara aka Kie left to join the Peace Corps, her dreams of changing the world becoming a reality. She never thought she’d come back, not after everything. But when her dad gets sick, she buys the first ticket home. Pogue life is harder to shake than she thought. Or maybe if she's being honest she never really wanted to shake it.
