Summary
While serving time in Stillwater Prison, a lonely Vi decides to sign up for the penpal program. On the outside, Caitlyn has dropped out of law school to try and find herself, and ends up also signing up for the program on a whim. When they are paired up and begin writing letters, each of them finds exactly what they need.

“If you’re going to kill me,” Vi challenged. Breaking their fragile silence. “At least do me the courtesy of looking me in the eye. Shooting me in the back is such poor form, wouldn’t you agree?”
Caitlyn's sharp angular face didn’t subside from their positions. They stared off at each other. Neither of them wanted to blink first as Vi’s life was in the hands of a piltie–a Kiramman of all people. Fucking cliché.
Eventually, the safety clicked on and the gun lowered from Vi, allowing her to take a big step back even. Caitlyn’s eyes never left hers until she caught bloody footprints leading from Jayce and Viktor's lab. Now lingering at the mess inside.
“What happened here?” she kept interrogating. Sounding a bit more mellow, but held the demanding attention of a Kiramman.
Vi didn’t even look. Too busy catching her side profile, and redefining those sharp edges that’d slice through armor. “Blinde date got a little rough. Guess you could say me and blondie didn’t quite click.”
Kiramman arched her brow, “you did this?”

“Caitlyn.”
“Oh,” Jinx says knowingly, glancing Vi’s way out of the corner of her eye. “That’s the, uh, the cop girl, right? Maddie’s ex?”
A chorus of mutters and nods is the response.
“I’m being warned about her,” Vi tells her sister and Jinx blows her bangs out of her face.
“Good,” she says, almost snappishly. “Yeah, don’t date cop girl. You should date someone cool.”
“I’m not going to date anyone, not for a while. I need to get back on my feet first,” says Vi, drumming her fingers against the condensation of the glass. Thinking of Cupcake in her contacts, and that teasing smile.
Everything in Vi’s life right now is starting over. She’s spending the holidays on her sister’s pull-out futon, trying to make sense of the avalanche of changes, salvage what’s left of her family and figure out what she’s going to do next. The last thing she expects to do is include the beautiful woman she runs into on her first day in town, or this Caitlyn that everyone’s warning her to stay away from.

“Piltover?” Vi asks, looking back at Ekko who just shrugs. She takes a step closer to Caitlyn, invading her space. “Let me ask you something– Caitlyn–was it?” Her voice is so close to her face. “You got a last name?” Caitlyn feels her stomach drop at the question.
“Well, actually…this might sound mad–” Caitlyn starts. She turns away from Vi, in need of some reprieve. She rubs her brow with the tips of her fingers, as if she could conjure up a better answer. “I don’t know my last name. I was found wandering around when I was about nine years old,” Caitlyn says sheepishly.
Vi nods, as if she understood. “And, uh, before that– before you were nine?” She brings her finger to her chin.
“Look, I know I must sound ridiculous, but I genuinely don’t remember. I have– very few memories of my past.” Caitlyn looks down at her hands clasped in front of her now. Her thumbs rub together.
Vi looks back at Ekko again, huffing a small laugh.
“Well I do have one clue, I suppose. And that is Piltover."
