Summary
Tommy is a child, close to 11, to be specific, going through, war, after war. That stress, caused him to actually, need, a form of emotional support for him to not just have a breakdown. He has a prosthetic leg, on the left side. Since, his leg ended up becoming infected with something, it had to get amputated.
As well as a prosthetic arm, that was on the right arm. This happened since... Wilbur was using explosives, and those ended up taking the lower elbow of Tommy's right arm.
This takes place before the leg amputation-

Ghostbur and Friend are the only comfort Tommy can get, for the first year of exile. Tommy got exiled at 13. He was older than 11, when he got 'canonically' exiled. (It's more implied/head canon that he got exiled at 11.)
