Summary
“John tells himself he only has to survive the night. He’ll come to believe this lie later: everything will be alright if you can get through the night. It isn’t, it never is, because the night is full of monsters, but the day is full of loss, and what’s worse to live with, which one hurts the most.”
Three times John went on holiday; three different tenses of the verb ‘to love.’
A love story, over and over.

Summary
John is very pleased with how much easier Sherlock is to live with post-wives, and babies that were not his, and lunatic sisters, and explosions. Pleased that Sherlock respects his requests and is making an obvious effort to be a better flatmate - a quieter, more reserved, more tactful flatmate, and a more polite, calmer, more controlled person in general.
John is very pleased.
Isn't he?

Summary
Watson is slowly but surely recuperating after the capture of Killer Evans in Mr. Nathan Garrideb's cellar - which came right on the heels of the harrowing experience he and Holmes shared on the Dutch steamship Friesland.
As relieved as Watson is to have come out of those incidents relatively unscathed, he comes to recognise his relationship with Holmes is strained for mysterious reasons.
When Holmes abruptly decides to end their partnership and ask him to leave 221b, a devastated Watson must pick himself up from the rubble of his life and come up with a new plan for his bleak, Holmesless future.
But he can't stop himself from wondering about the real reason has Holmes abandoned him. Why now? Whatever did he do to deserve such treatment from his trusted partner — not to mention the great love of his life and his closest companion?

Summary
Sometimes late at night, when all I hear is the sound of Sherlock’s steady breathing beside me, I wonder if the life we have now is my reward for surviving everything that went before. But then Sherlock cries out in the dark, his body sweaty and tangled in the sheets, legs kicking out against some imagined villain, and I wonder how my reward can also be his punishment.

Bookmarker's Notes
"I stare at myself in the small mirror over the sink and trace the lines around my eyes, the grey in my beard and I wonder what Sherlock would think if he could see me now. Does he still imagine me the way I used to be?"

Summary
“Because the more I know, the more I love.”
In the heavy silence of Baker Street, John Watson realizes that knowing Sherlock Holmes is a double-edged sword. To know his past, his habits, and the taste of his lips is to invite an irreversible love—and with it, an inevitable end. A study on the thin line between intimacy and the mortality of a relationship.
