Summary
The first time Dean read The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, he cried himself to sleep. The old paperback soft from wear sat dog-eared on the motel bedside table.
His dad wasn’t big on casual reading, he believed that there were better ways to spend your time. He’d often tug a novel from his young son’s grasps and replace it with thick lore books or case files.
But one overcast day while Dean was meandering through another long and boring day of seventh grade a box sat by the gym doors caught his eye. Above the box on a poster board sign written in glitter glue read “free library, take or leave a book”.

Summary
This fic has been stirring around in my brain since Supernatural ended. I tried for a while to write a good ending but I feel like a lot of the root of the problems started too early, so this is a Supernatural rewrite, but in a way that makes it less painful to consume, and also make it gay, but not in a homophobic way lmao. I'm not sure I'll finish this, it'll depend on if people like it.

It had been almost a year and a half since Sam had last seen his brother Dean. His life was on route to being wonderfully melancholic, that is until one day Dean shows up asking for help finding their father; a man Sam believes to be a serial murderer and nothing more. He had two options, continue his normal life, or delve down the rabbit hole to uncover the truth about his father to the world in order to become a rich and famous hero and writer, the one who finally caught The serial killer known to the U.S. as the Rapture Ripper.

It's not a decision. Not more than the immobility was that had frozen his muscles before and made it impossible to move. It isn't a thought that drives him to throw himself at Cas, between Cas and this supernatural entity he knows he can't defeat. He's done it before he even knows he moved at all, arms wrapped around the angel as tightly as possible. It was more like a reflex, an instinct, maybe. There was nothing else to be done, so why not do something insanely stupid?
